Gwyneth Paltrow has signed up to Mario Batali’s ‘Food Bank Challenge’ to live off a food budget of just $29 a week.
According to Batali’s challenge site, $1.38 per meal is what people receiving food stamps as part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in America have to live on.
The chef has called people to take part in the challenge to truly understand how difficult it is to live on SNAP which has already been reduced in 2013 and is on the chopping block for more reductions.
Paltrow has tweeted her first $29 haul of food which doesn’t seem like a lot and many have pointed out that her healthy selection would not pack enough calories for anyone working a physical job.

Paltrow’s move is certainly helping to highlight the issue of food stamps and just how difficult it is to live on such a tight budget, however, the star is still getting a lot of hassle for taking up the challenge.

Trying to be one of the ppl, Gwyneth Paltrow used her $29 food bank allowance to buy limes, cilantro & parsley. Forgot the Patron, I guess.
