Malaysian artist Red Hongyi has created a stunning portrait made of 20,000 steeped tea bags, a masterpiece intended as a homage to her home country.
Called Teh Tarik Man, the portrait took about two months to complete and measures 10.5 feet by 7.4 feet (3.2 by 2.2meters). It was made with 10 different shades of tea bags and weighs a whopping 441 pounds (200kgs)!
Hongyi says of her work:
"I wanted to create a piece that reflected an everyday scene in Malaysia that reminds me of home. Teh Tarik (which means 'pulled-tea' in Malay) is a drink served in local coffeeshops (or kopitiams) that is sweet, frothy and milky, and is frothed up when tea is poured between two containers... It is a drink that brings people together and I hope that I get to share a bit of my country through this piece!"
