There’s nothing worse than paying lots of cash for terrible food on a plane, or being three hours in to a 12 hour flight only to discover the two options for dinner are both things you hate.
Imagine a way to take great packed lunches on to a plane? It’s exactly the idea launched this week at Heathrow Airport where passengers are now being offered the chance to buy different picnic style meals to take onboard their flights.
The Guardian reports the service is available at the airport’s 118 restaurants are taking part in the new campaign with some pretty tasty sounding lunches on offer.
Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant inside Terminal 5 offers up 3 course meals for £12.95 with options including a caesar salad with pancetta and soft boiled egg, honey roasted beetroot, goat’s cheese, walnut and rocket and an English cheese selection with quince and berries.
Heston Blumenthal’s will also take part offering food from his recently opened Perfectionists' Cafe for a take on meal kit.
The kits, which come in special thermal packing or cool boxes, range from £5 for a simple sandwich and drink to the King Seafood Platter packed with caviar, costing £145 from Caviar House . The idea is to offer passengers and alternative for when they’re in the air, allowing people more choice and control over when they eat. It could prove to be a move that also sways people to fly with the airport just for the food.
