A new book detailing the role of Italian immigrants in the development of California wines over the 20th century is hitting the shelves this fall. Italian families planted the roots of what has now become a world-class wine industry, according to Soft Soil, Black Grapes: The Birth of Italian Winemaking in California.
Written by Simone Cinotto, a professor at New York University and the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Italy, the book highlights the pivotal contributions of Italian immigrants focusing on the success stories of Pietro Carlo Rossi, Secondo Guasti and the Gallo family. The book traces the fascinating struggles, ambition and creativity to led to the biggest triumph in American wine history.
Published by the NYU Press, Soft Soil, Black Grapes will be available for purchase in November.
