He defines himself as the Pothole Gardener: the Londoner Steve Wheen turns his city's potholes into amazing small worlds full of living plants, flowers and decorated with miniature props. His project, based on 'guerrilla gardening', is displayed on the streets of east London playing host to his tiny everyday life scenes: a picnic basket ready to be emptied, an armchair to rest on while reading a good book, a knitting set or the ultra famous iconice red phone box.
He came up with the idea as part of his university course, and now the project has a different aim: "The pictures and gardens are supposed to put smiles on people's faces and alert them to the potholes!", Steve explains in his blog, used to highlight the problem of abandoned streets in the east London area.
And if you have green fingers, do your own flowering pothole yourself! "I love it when people take to the streets and create their own pothole gardens", Steve adds, "if you feel inspired to do so please send me a picture so I can post them."
