Where to Eat Outdoors in Rome

Four women who have already conquered Trastevere have decided to go big. Streetfood, a menu that looks to tradition and an internal courtyard enriched with plants and flowers where you can escape from the chaos of the city. Pianostrada in via delle Zoccolette is perfect for an outdoor lunch, alone or in company, a stone's throw from Campo de 'Fiori, and from one of the most evocative points of the Lungotevere. The owners took advantage of the closure to research a new menu and a small restyling of the restaurant, and now they are ready to reopen their doors, every day for lunch and dinner (at the weekend also for breakfast).

A few outdoor tables on the steep side of Viale dei Parioli are perfect for enjoying the gastronomic wonders of Ercoli 1928. You can opt for a lunch with excellent raw materials, an aperitif with a platter of game cured meats and rare cheeses, or simply a glass of vermouth among the dozens and dozens of bottles that the Vermouth Bar offers you.

In addition to Ercoli Parioli, there is Ercoli Prati, with outdoor space: they are both open until 10pm, for lunch and dinner with à la carte menus, but also for aperitifs and snacks.

Just behind Via Veneto, the terrace of Il Giardino Ristorante is a hidden gem, overlooking the Pincio and the entire centre of Rome from the Hotel Eden where Michelin-star chef Fabio Ciervo offers an à la carte menu. If you pass by, you wouldn't even notice it. Like many hidden gems, the Marco Martini Restaurant guards its secrets closely. The boutique hotel is the backdrop to a veranda made of wrought iron gazebos and statues of millenary goddesses. Here, for being outdoors, there is not just one choice, but two: the veranda where you can sip excellent cocktails and the terrace facing the restaurant, a delightful winter garden.

This Michelin-star restaurant is the home of chef Marco Martini, who gets creative without forgetting tradition. Excellent service and satisfying cuisine that ranges from the classic evening tasting menu to one for all budgets at lunch, where you should not miss the suckling pig, apple, potatoes and mustard cooked for over ten hours at a low temperature and the sea ajo and ojo, with scents that evoke past summers. Reservation is mandatory.

Open Monday to Saturday, from 12.00 to 16.30, and and from 19.00 to 22.00; Sunday open from 12.00 to 16.30. The cocktail bar is open from Monday to Saturday, from 4pm to 10pm.

280 grams of pure leavened joy shared by the diners, eight slices seasoned the same so as not to displease anyone, and ingredients that go beyond organic, for a pop pizza that had been waiting for a long time in Rome. The outdoor space in via della Vite, attached to Piazza di Spagna, is now an integral part of the downtown scene. Whether it's spring, summer or winter, Ginger is a cornerstone of Roman outdoor venues, from breakfast to dinner.

Fresh fruit, gourmet sandwiches for those in a hurry, healthy menus and extracts in normal or shot versions (for a boost of energy) have always been a must of the place. Latteria Garbatella is currently open from 12.30 to 22 from Monday to Friday, and from 10 to 22 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Do you want to surprise your partner with a priceless view of Rome? Then take it to the Les Etoiles terrace of the Hotel Atlante, a stone's throw from St. Peter's. Breakfast, Brunch with two courses of appetisers, the first choice featuring a really well made Amatriciana and dessert (30 euros), or an aperitif while enjoying the Eternal City at 360 degrees, with the Dome of San Pietro as well close that if you reach out you can touch it.

Any list of outdoor restaurants in Rome must include La Pergola by three Michelin-starred chef Heinz Beck. With one of the most incredible views in the world with its terrace overlooking the Baroque roofs, ancient houses and, of course, the Cupolone. At the moment it is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday by reservation, only with the 'starry staycation' package, with a room at 190 euros + eight-course gourmet menu (350 euros) or a la carte menu. Obsessed with organic? Well. ViVi reopens with Le Serre by ViVi, in Villa Pamphili and Palazzo Braschi (Piazza Navona). Immersed in the meadows of the park of Villa Pamphili, Vivi Bistrot relies on the season to create fresh and delicious dishes, with a nod to vegans, vegetarians and small producers. Try the wide choice of burgers, also in meat-free version, Thai noodles or Healthy bowls. If, on the other hand, you are near Piazza Navona, they are waiting for you in a restaurant with a portico overlooking the square.

Great news, the launch of ChicNics at Le Serre: two menu options are proposed in a picnic version to be savoured on the restaurant's lawn. ViVi provides you with a towel, wicker basket, low table and cushion. Picnic is available by reservation only.

More than a trattoria: Flavio is the king of carbonara. The one with the perfectly textured cream, which he has been developing for years.

Set in the Monte dei Cocci di Testaccio, with a small terrace and a veranda, from Flavio al Velavevodetto you go to eat the Roman tradition done well, following the seasonality of the products, which are strictly those of their garden just outside the walls, including wine. Open from 12.00 to 22.00, all day. For the afternoon opening, a menu of sweets and teas for the snack was prepared, and one of savoury preparations for the aperitif (from 15.00 to 19.00).

In the section of trattorias and open-air pizzerias in Rome, Cesare al Casaletto must not be missed. Spartano, homemade also in the external section, offers perhaps the best value for money in Rome. Leonardo Vignoli takes the products from his garden and combines them to create true traditional cuisine: tripe with sauce, rigatoni with tail sauce, eggplant croquettes, 'angry' and fried gnocchi with cheese and pepper are just some of the dishes that make you leave the place with a smile on your face, even if they will be covered by a mask for the next few months. Zuma's restaurant terrace at Palazzo Fendi is discreet and intimate as only a true Japanese restaurant can be. With its view on the dome of San Carlo in via del Corso and on that of Fuksas all in glass, it is the perfect place if you love tranquillity and good Japanese food. There are three kitchens, on view in the restaurant, for three different ways of enjoying Japanese cuisine (including grill), which offer lunch at fair prices and tasty and abundant tasting dinners.
