Claire Saffitz, self-confessed 'dessert person', former BA Test Kitchen pastry chef and all-round baking hero, has become a runaway success since she decided to go it alone with the publication of her first cookbook, as well as her break out Dessert Person series on YouTube.
Known for her love of all things baked, both sweet and savoury, Saffitz makes for a good-humoured and easy-going guide encouraging home cooks to excel in any type of baking.
'Dessert Person' Recipes and Guidance for Baking with Confidence by Claire Saffitz
In Claire Saffitz's first cookbook, Dessert Person she's on a one-woman mission to convert all cooks to the joys of baking. "There are no 'just cooks' out there, I am convinced. There are only bakers who haven’t been converted yet," she explains on her website.
The accessible guide is filled with over 100 tried and tested sweet and savoury recipes, designed for all levels of amateur cooks, in which Saffitz condemns food being labelled good or bad, and says instead we should embrace it in all its beauty.
Here are two of Saffitz's recipes from the new book, which are sure to make you embrace becoming a 'dessert person'.
Caramelized Honey Pumpkin Pie
Saffitz's take on pumpkin pie will become your new go-to recipe in the fall, or any other time of the year for that matter.
Double Apple Crumble Cake
Everyone knows and loves apple cake. But try Saffitz's take on this household favourite, and you'll be reaching for the cake tin, time and time again.
Now you've got a taste for dessert, here's a trio of recipe picks from Saffitz's YouTube channel to keep you busy baking.
