What does one drink after having tried the specialties from some of Milan’s best chefs? The Taste of Milano 2011 wasn’t about to leave that question unanswered – a Wine&Spirits Academy was also part of the 3-day event, as a way for the public to learn a bit about wine tasting and more.
Alongside the classic wine tasting in all its variants (from the aperitif to the dessert) there were also sessions dedicated to Zacapa rum (the precious rum from Guatemala, aged “above the clouds”) and Cuban rum, together with perfect pairings like chocolate and Havana cigars. There were also beers brewed by monks, the 175th Anniversary of Pommery champagne and a virtual voyage through the Franciacorta region.
And of course, there was also water tasting: when is it preferable to drink sparkling water and when is it better to drink still? Helping visitors get a clearer picture of water and how to pair it, was Giuseppe Vaccarini – named the best ASI sommelier in 1978 – who offered advice to visitors on when to enjoy the bubbles S.Pellegrino and when to select the freshness of Acqua Panna.
