The curtain has closed on MAD4, the annual symposium spearheaded by the world's best chef René Redzepi, and there was plenty of action as chefs, food professionals and other experts congregated to discuss this year's theme: What is Cooking?
Co-curated by Brazilian chef Alex Atala, the guest list had remained secret until the event's inauguration. Speakers included renown Spanish chef Albert Adrià, who spoke about overcoming fear, Indian cookbook author Madhur Jaffrey who addressed the obscure topic of constipation, and celebrity chef Chris Cosentino who talked about the perils of fame.
One of the biggest highlights at the two-day event was the announcement of a joint venture between Roy Choi and Daniel Patterson. The California chefs will open a fast food restaurant called loco'l next spring.
"This would not have happened without MAD, but MAD itself would not have happened without the evolution of the role of a chef in today’s society. Long hours and hard work will always be a requisite for being a good chef," the chefs explained in an open letter on MAD Feed.
As in previous years, videos from the speeches delivered during the symposium will be released in the months to come. Stay tuned for those and, in the meantime, enjoy these top 10 quotes from MAD4, as told by The MADFeed on Twiiter:
