We all know Marco Pierre White is a genius in the kitchen. Now it seems the chef has turned surrealist performance artist, if his Instagram posts are anything to go by.
The English chef, famous for becoming the first to win three Michelin stars and then at the peak of his powers hand them all back, is never far from the headlines, despite his aversion to media scrutiny. The chef's pronouncements on the state of the industry, as well as his musings and reflections on life, are always fascinating.
He seems to be having fun with his Instagram though, and he has been posting a series of surreal vignettes, showing himself contemplatively cracking eggs or having lunch with a goose. What does it all mean, Marco?
It might mean nothing, maybe it means something? Perhaps it means whatever you want it to mean? What is Art? What is Food?
No Need for Words
Marco pours what looks like maple syrup over something, but we’re not sure what, because there’s no need for words.
Waiting for Lunch
Marco is waiting for lunch, and it arrives, but it’s a goose on a plate and it just glides past him and he continues to wait. Shades of Beckett in this one.
Still Waiting
Marco is still waiting. What is time? Then two geese…
As You Can See, I’m still waiting for Lunch
Geese go in different directions. Marco waits…
How to Crack an Egg
Which came first? The chicken or the egg? Marco shows how human existence creates an interdimensional time quake. Salvador would be proud.
My Friend has Arrived for Lunch
Just one word….'goose'….
Following in the Footsteps of the Legendary Andy Warhol
Black and white evokes Art Nouveau, but Marco references Warhol as he unwraps and actually eats a McDonald’s burger. What is happening?
