Peruvian chef Gastón Acurio is expanding his ceviche and tapas bar La Mar to Miami, according to local media reports.
La Mar is set to open at the Mandarin Oriental in the Brickell district of the city. It will replace Café Sambal and is slated to open this December. The restaurant will have a high-energy setting with stunning water views of Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline, according to a press release.
Already with locations in San Francisco, Chicago, Lima, Bogotá and Sao Paolo, La Mar feautures Peruvian-Asian fusion cuisine that has brought Acurio international acclaim.
“La Mar restaurants celebrate Peru’s rich diversity through the creation of eclectic cuisine,” the chef said in a statement. “Miami’s unique blending of cultures and vibrant spirit is an ideal fit for our philosophy. We are excited for the beginning stages of this project and are honored to be working with Mandarin Oriental, Miami."
Acurio has been awarded The Diners Club Lifetime Achievement Award ahead of the inaugural Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants List which will be announced in Lima, Peru, on September 4th.
