The news is in and the first ever list of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants, sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, has been published. With so many chefs and restaurants highlighted at the gala ceremony in Singapore it's hard to mention every facet of the list.
It was the Japanese chef Yoshihiro Narisawa who took top place on the list for his outstanding approach to nature, the elements, sustainability and cooking at his Les Créations de Narisawa restaurant in Tokyo. Narisawa was also awarded the special award for Best in Japan.
The 2nd place spot went to chef Seiji Yamamoto for his Nihonryori RyuGin restaurant in Tokyo. 3rd place and Best in Thailand award was presented to the British born chef David Thompson who has worked tirelessly to present traditional Thai street food at his Nahm restaurant in Bangkok.
Best in Singapore went to Andre. The restaurant, headed by chef André Chiang, also placed 5th overall on the list.
Other awards worth mentioning are for those restaurants picked for special mentions. Restaurant Amber and Richard Ekkebus placed 4th overall with a special note as The Best in China and the Lifetime Achievement went to the French born chef Paul Pairet for his work at the Mr and Mrs Bund restaurant in Shanghai. 4th on the list was the Amber restaurant in Hong Kong which was also picked at the Best in China.
The Dum Pukht restaurant in New Delhi, headed up by chef Ghulam Qureshi, placed 17 on the list and was chosen as Best in India.
The Best in Sri Lanka went to chef Dharshan Munidasa at the Nihonbashi restaurant - a Japanese style dining experience found in Columbo, Sri Lanka.
Chef Donald Berger from Don's restaurant in Hanoi, known as a chef Bistro, was picked as the Best in Vietnam and the Best in Indonesia went to the Mozaic restaurant with their exciting chef, Chris Salans.
The Vueve Cliquot Best Female Chef award was given to Duongporn ‘Bo’ Songvisava from the Bo Lan restaurant in Bangkok and the Best Pastry Chef award went to Janice Wong from the 2am Dessert Bar.
